• Dermestidarium Quail Skull Ornament Dermestidarium Quail Skull Ornament
The annual Dermestidarium tradition is back! These ornaments are made from the (real!) skulls of domestic Coturnix quail, raised humanely for meat on small farms in the United States. They are given several coatings of real silver metal, sealed in a clear lacquer to make them extra durable, and have a black ribbon to hang from.

  • Rusted Iron Goat Skull Rusted Iron Goat Skull
This goat skull is truly one of a kind. This guy lived to a ripe old age, despite having the strangest tooth growth I've ever seen in a ruminant, and he has a presence that was just too rustic and hard worn for the finer metals I work with. He's coated with multiple thin layers of real iron that were given an acid wash that turned it into reddish orange rust. I added a final layer of black patina before burnishing with steel wool to highlight the details of the skull. The rust gradients away from the skull and onto the horns. He's creepy and he's cool and I'll never have another one quite like him.
  • Bronze Ram Skull Bronze Ram Skull
This skull is from a young Jacob sheep ram. It's coated in multiple layers of thin bronze and given a black patina that was burnished back to highlight the detail in the skull.  The rear side has some damage (see photo), but none that you would ever see while it was on display.
  • Rusted Iron Longhorn Steer Skull Rusted Iron Longhorn Steer Skull
This longhorn steer skull measures about 2'5" tip to tip, making it a striking but versatile decor piece. It comes from a locally raised meat steer. It's been coated with multiple thin layers of real iron that were given an acid wash to turn it into reddish orange rust. I added a final layer of black patina before burnishing with steel wool to highlight the details of the skull. The horns are polished, but still have some natural character from life on the ranch.
